Secure sign-in and choosing your household

Conditional guide for the new passwordless entry flow when enabled. Use a passkey or a verified primary sign-in followed by SMS, explicitly link providers from Security, and choose between independently authorised households. Existing invitation membership does not consume a first own-household trial.

This guide applies when the updated Create account / Sign in screen is enabled. The new flow is being prepared behind rollout controls; do not assume that a provider or security option is available unless it appears on your screen.

During explicit pre-launch testing, registration asks you to acknowledge test access and use test data. Application terms and privacy documentation are not final, and this is not acceptance of final terms. Security checks still apply. Twelve-month post-closure trial-marker retention is awaiting privacy review; until approved, closing an identity deletes those markers. Final policies and the remaining launch checks must be completed before real-user testing.

Create an account

Sign-in and sign-up start in dark mode. The theme button lets you change this while signing in; once you enter the app, it starts in light mode and the top-bar theme button can switch it to dark for your current visit.

On desktop, feature tiles beside the form give a short overview of Fieldwell. Hover over the tiles to pause them, or focus a row with the keyboard. Press Space while a row is focused to keep movement paused after leaving it, and press Space again to resume. If your device requests reduced motion, the tiles stay still and can be scrolled horizontally. They do not change your sign-in or account setup.

The Need help signing in? link inside the panel opens the support page, including help with recovery.

  • Eligibility: sign-in accounts are for UK residents aged 18 or over. Children can be represented through adult-managed profiles; this does not give a child a login.
  • Email: enter your address and the six-digit code. Keep the address on one line; on a small screen, scroll sideways if necessary to check all of it.
  • About you: enter your full name, eight date-of-birth digits and UK nation. Slashes are added automatically. Confirm any suggested residence; it is a planning default rather than a determination of tax residence.
  • Protection: create a passkey or verify a mobile. A passkey uses your device's secure unlock. Alternatively, email, Google or Apple sign-in is followed by a text-message code to the verified number.
  • Recovery: keep the single-use recovery codes somewhere private and separate from your device. They are displayed once.
  • Household: give your household a name and start the eligible introductory trial. No bank accounts, assets or relatives' records are added automatically.

The server checks each stage before granting access. Entering six characters alone does not verify a code. Type, paste, or use a supported keyboard's code suggestion; the screen continues after a correct server-verified code.

Text-message requests allow up to ten codes per hour and thirty per day per number, with at least thirty seconds between requests. Shared-network limits also apply. If you reach a limit, the message tells you how long to wait; repeated blocked clicks do not extend that wait. Your latest valid code can still be entered. The limit of five incorrect attempts per code is unchanged.

If you used Fieldwell before the updated sign-in flow, you may see Confirm your details once. Your existing saved name and date of birth are prefilled after primary verification; confirm missing residence and the current acknowledgment. This is not a form you complete on every login after setup. A location suggestion is only shown when a trusted location source is available. If none is available, select your UK nation manually; Fieldwell does not assume England or treat your current connection location as proof of tax residence.

Already included in your parents' household?

Use the same Fieldwell identity. After verifying it, choose an existing household or Set up your own household where offered.

Your own household is separate. It does not copy the assets, transactions, connections or private records in your parents' household, and it does not automatically give your parents access to yours.

When you have multiple active memberships, a full-page welcome asks which household to open. Choose a card, optionally tick Open this household by default, then continue. A default only skips the choice, never the security check. Without a default, Fieldwell asks each time.

Inside the app, open your profile icon in the top-right corner. My profile opens your own profile; the household list switches your financial view. Sign-in preference lets you change the default or choose Ask me each time. This preference is only shown when you belong to more than one available household. Eligible members without their own household can choose Create my own household from this same menu, without leaving their existing family.

Switching for this visit does not change your saved default. A default is checked against current membership each time; removed access is never restored by a preference. If it is unavailable, Fieldwell falls back to an available household or the chooser.

Your permissions can differ between households. Save unfinished work before switching: open Fieldwell tabs reload to prevent a stale screen writing into the wrong household.

Joining someone else's household is not a personal introductory trial. Creating your first eligible own household may start one. Changing sign-in methods, switching households, exporting, deleting or importing records does not entitle you to repeated introductory trials. Contact support if an eligibility decision appears wrong.

Link Google or Apple

Only configured providers appear. If your provider uses the same email as an existing Fieldwell identity but is not linked, sign in using an existing method first. Open Settings → Security and choose Link Google or Link Apple. For security, you may be asked to sign in again before changing methods.

Matching email text is not permission to merge accounts. Apple relay addresses can also differ from your normal address; do not create another identity to work around a linking problem.

Security and recovery

Move from Google and SMS to a passkey

Open your top-right profile menu and select Sign-in & security, or go to Settings → Security. Choose Add a passkey and follow your device's secure-unlock prompt. You may need to sign in again if your previous security check was more than ten minutes ago.

Once Fieldwell confirms it was added, choose Sign in with a passkey on your next login. You do not need to use Google and then enter an SMS code for that passkey login. Google and your verified mobile remain available as alternatives; adding a passkey does not delete them. Cancelling the device prompt does not claim that a passkey was created.

Your name, date of birth and email belong to your shared person profile, not to separate copies in each household. Household roles and access remain separate. Another household owner cannot edit an enrolled adult's shared profile through the household profile form. Ordinary profile saves do not change your sign-in email; use the separate verified process below.

Change your sign-in email

Open Your profile or Settings → Security, then choose Change sign-in email. If your last security check was more than ten minutes ago, sign in again before continuing.

Enter the new address and select Send verification code. Enter or paste the six-digit code sent there. The address remains unchanged until the code has been verified. Codes expire after five minutes; requesting another replaces the previous code. Cancel or choose a different address if needed.

Verification updates the shared email for all your households and signs out all sessions, including this browser. Sign in with the new email or an existing linked provider or passkey. Linked providers, household memberships and trial history do not reset. Fieldwell queues a security alert to the old address.

If an address is unavailable, use another address or contact support. Fieldwell does not merge identities to resolve an email conflict. If you did not request an email change, contact [email protected] immediately and never share verification or recovery codes.

Settings → Security lets you add a passkey or verify a replacement mobile, remove a passkey while retaining another verified security method, and sign out other sessions. Editing the contact number in Profile does not change your verified sign-in number.

If you cannot use your normal second factor, verify your primary sign-in and use an unused recovery code. You must configure a replacement security method; old methods and sessions are revoked. If all methods and recovery codes are lost, use Need help? or I've lost all my sign-in methods. Contacting support does not bypass verification.

Codes expire after five minutes, and request and attempt limits apply. A resend invalidates the previous code. You can enter a UK mobile starting 07; Fieldwell normalises +44 on the server.

What is not automatic

  • Identity or tax verification: a self-entered date of birth or residence is not documentary identity proof or personalised tax advice.
  • Data sharing: a household membership is explicit access, not shared access to every other household belonging to the same person.
  • Billing: payment setup is a separate rollout. The signup screen does not take a payment or create an automatic charge.
  • Live provider testing: availability depends on deployment configuration; a preview does not establish Apple, Google, email or SMS delivery.
